37th Fajr winners making a return

Which one of last year's winners will return?

A number of award-winners from the 37th Fajr Film Festival have set for return to this year’s event.

Each year, a group of award-winners and nominees from previous festivals decide to return to the following year’s event.

So far, four award-winners from the previous year have decided to return for the 38th edition of the annual event.

Mohammad Kart, winner of the 37th edition’s Best Short Film award for his ‘Pedovore’, is set to make a return this year for the premiere of his latest feature ‘Butterfly Stroke’ in the festival’s national competition.

Ali Nasiriyan, recipient of the previous year’s Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Amir-Homayoun Ghanizadeh’s ‘A Hairy Tale’, will be returning in Majid Majidi’s film ‘The Sun’.

Elnaz Shakerdoust, last year’s Best Actress award winner for her performance in Narges Abyar’s ‘When the Moon Was Full’, is also set for a comeback, this time in Behnam Behzadi’s ‘I’m Scared’.

Nima Javidi, winner of the festival’s 2019 Special Jury Award for his drama ‘The Warden’, will be returning as an assistant to director Majid Majidi in ‘The Sun’.

In a press release late Friday, the administrative office of the 38th Fajr Film Festival, set to begin in February, released a list of 22 films scheduled to premiere at the event’s national competition.

The Fajr Film Festival coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors along with up and coming filmmakers from Iran every year.

The 38th edition of the event is set to launch on February 1, 2020 and will run until February 11 in Tehran.

An international version of the event is also set to be held in April 2020.
